A Life, By The Years
Dr. Henry Doherty, Funso's father, is born in Lagos.
His father completes medical training in Glasgow, Scotland, and returns home to serve.
Funso Doherty is born in Lagos on 16 June and grows up on Wakeman Street, now Borno Way, in Yaba.
Completes primary education at Corona School, Victoria Island, where he serves as Head Boy.
Attends King's College Lagos, his father's alma mater. A Federal Government Academic Scholar, he receives the Service to College Life award and is elected Form Captain for four consecutive terms.
Graduates from the University of Lagos with Second Class Upper Division Honours in Accounting. At UNILAG, he is a member of the ABC Club and is elected Chief.
Completes National Service after orientation at Yikpata camp, where he serves as Platoon Leader, and teaches at a rural community secondary school in Okehi.
Begins his professional career at Arthur Andersen & Co. in Lagos. Trained locally and internationally, he rises to Senior and completes the qualifying examinations of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria.
Joins Asset & Resource Management Company at inception, specialising in investment management and becoming one of the pioneers of Nigeria's mutual fund industry.
Marries Dr. Orode Omolara Williams.
Attends Harvard Business School and completes his MBA in 2001.
Joins the Investment Management Division of Goldman Sachs in New York and is in downtown Manhattan when the World Trade Center is attacked on 9/11.
Joins PNC Advisors, the investment management business of the PNC Banking Group, as a Vice President at its head office in Pennsylvania, USA.
Returns to Nigeria as Pioneer Managing Director and CEO of ARM Pension Managers, leading the business from inception into one of Nigeria's leading Pension Fund Administrators.
Establishes Doherty and Company.
Serves as Managing Director and CEO of ValuAlliance Asset Management and as a co-investor.
Completes his tenure as Managing Director and CEO of PAL Pensions, leading a nationwide team overseeing more than half a trillion naira in assets.
Runs for Governor of Lagos State under the African Democratic Congress.
Principal, Doherty and Company. Remains active in politics and governance in Lagos State.
